Navigating Screens

Context:

As part of a full year independent study during my 5th year at Drexel University, I worked with Professor Denise Agosto on a grant project called Navigating Screens, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Oklahoma for the Museum of Library Services.

Objective:

Uncover a deeper understand of parents' perspectives on the risks and benefits of children's digital technology use

My role:

I joined the project at one of the most exciting times, the interview phase! I had the great joy of going to the Philadelphia Library and facilitating parent interviews & learning how to use a tape recorder!

Once the data collection was complete, I helped code the data.

Impact:

As a result of this research, the Navigating Screen team has put together resources and trainings on child media consumption.

To learn more about the project please visit the Navigating Screens Website.

Poster:

The poster below was created after extensive analysis and was proudly displayed in the lobby of the College of Computing and Informatics at Drexel University.

Navigating Screens researchers studied how parents and other caregivers of children ages 5-11 manage media use within their families and source of media use guidance available in their communities.
